Motherhood. A time of joy, a time of learning and change and most definitely, a time of LOVE.

Love comes in many guises. Keeping the child fed, clean and safe. Then there’s the cuddles, the songs, the sharing of experience and guidance for their future.

That’s the promise of all those ‘congratulations on your new baby girl’ cards. But love, LOVE, is the biting one’s tongue when the child is willful, defiant and angry. LOVE, is the constant faith in their worth when they hate you, revile you and want you out of their life. LOVE, is the faith that once again, my child will stop hating me and believe it was not my fault.

Motherhood was not pleasant, not easy and at times, not very loving. The deepest betrayal against my young daughter by her father robbed me of the lovely, happy, motherhood I should have had and most certainly took my child’s right to a positive and secure childhood. In its wake was fear, lies and guilt. LOVE and FAITH guided me through the maelstrom of emotion, heartache and pain.
